Dr. Lior Ben-Avraham (he/ him/ his) is a cisgender male, queer person with over 10 years’ experience, offering short- and long-term counselling services to diverse types of clients in individual and couple settings. He is registered with the British Columbia College of Social Workers as a Registered Clinical Social Worker in good standing and is a member of the BC Association of Social Workers. Lior holds a doctorate in clinical social work from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in clinical social work from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Temple University.
Lior specializes in 2SLGBTQAI+ affirmative practices, a non-pathologizing approach to clinical practice that embraces a positive view of 2SLGBTQAI+ people, accepts, respects, and validates all experiences and expressions of 2SLGBTQAI+ identities and relationships (Carlson & McGeorge, 2010). He offers clients the opportunity to engage in identity- based dialogue and helps them develop positive identity (ies) and self-esteem while addressing the impact of minority stress, discrimination, heterosexism, and homophobia.
Practicing from a multicultural perspective, Lior believes that every person is of value, with the ability and right to achieve a satisfying and fulfilling life. He takes a collaborative approach and honors the importance of the therapeutic alliance in creating change in clients’ lives. With warmth, compassion, and empathy, Lior invites clients to (re)discover your strengths, hopes, and dreams, and your true selves.
In his free time, Lior enjoys spending time with his family and cat, hiking in the beautiful province of BC, cooking (and lately baking!), and growing tropical plants from around the world.
